Angelic Foe was initiated by Annmari Thim (Arcana) in 2006 when writing a set of lyrics with focus on Jewish mysticism and myths of succubi. The idea to start a music project with this theme was born even some years before that, after inspiring discussions and research on the subject.
The songs for “Oppressed by the Heavens” were composed together with guitarist Cristian Ellingsen (Eradication Process) in 2007 and the guitar and vocal basis for the songs were recorded. Mattias Borgh (Arcana, Blood Mortized) gave heartbeats to the songs by adding a variety of drums and percussions, which he recorded at Underworld Recording. After this, due to involvement in other bands, the songs were laid to rest for a number of years.
In 2011 Annmari was inspired to once again pick up the project and asked producer John Tyrell (Deepwater Productions) to develop the music further. John gave the songs new life by adding programmed orchestral arrangements to the acoustic recordings and with this the soundscape gained its desired richness. Annmari re-recorded the vocals for the songs and John could finalize the mixes.
In April 2012 Angelic Foe caught the attention of the French independent label Prikosnovenie, who agreed to release the upcoming debut album. “Oppressed by the Heavens” will finally be unleashed in October 2012.
