I Subterfuge (australiani, perchè esistono altre tre band inglesi e californiane con questo monicker, legate però alla scena punk) sono stati formati nel 1993 da Clifford Ennis, Rick Mullen, Brendan Toull e Jonathan Mee.
Lo stile musicale è molto cupo e ossessivo.
A settembre fanno uscire il primo demo, e a dicembre si esibiscono live, così come l’anno successivo, anche se della line up originale restano solo Clifford e Rick, che iniziano a lavorare al Cd “Darkland Awakening”.
Il cd esce e riscuote notevoli consensi.
La band si esibisce live in Australia fino al 1998, e alcune song vengono incluse nelle compilation. Collaborano anche con Chris McCarter degli Ikon nel side project Jerusalem Syndrome per “The Book of Days”
Clifford si unisce agli Ikoncome chitarrista, per due anni (2004-2005), riuscendo anche a suonare in Europa.
Nel 2008 Clifford e Mark Tansley (ex Suspiria) danno vita ai Razorfade.
