Andiamo a togliere un po di polvere al disco di debutto dei nostrani Kannonau che con “Initium” hanno composto (nell’ormai lontano 2008) un gran bel prodotto di folk a 360°. Sono difatti diverse le sensazioni che riesce a trasmettere quest’opera, è quasi come assistere ad un sorta di best of di inediti di una carriera che ha visto diverse sfumature sonore accavallarsi continuamente fra di loro. Invece niente di tutto ciò, ci troviamo solamente di fronte ad una realtà semplice e creativa che con disinvoltura riesce a mettere i piedi in diverse scarpe. Ci ho sentito un po di tutto su “Initium”, partendo ovviamente dai Death In June per arrivare agli :Of the Wand & the Moon: passando tramite l’eleganza marchiata Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio e la vellutata epicità Sol Invictus.
Regale, epico e rituale, a volte accattivante e marziale, c’è spazio per tutto in questo percorso di 45 minuti dove una voce maschile profonda e sensuale ci guida in un vecchio mondo fatto di legno e pietra. E’ bellissima l’apertura con “Revenge”, raggelante splendore scandito con “calma gloriosa”, si continua poi con la ruvida leggerezza di “The Human Abstract” e la ritualità suadente della title track. I Kannonau non hanno fretta di mostrare il loro mondo ed il loro caleidoscopio sonoro, l’avanzare è lento e si lascia gustare amabilmente come un buon vino rosso d’annata (ogni riferimento al nome della band è puramente casuale).
Incantevole ritmo e svolgimento per “Death To The Weak” che nella sua semplicità riesce a spiccare nella categoria “brani da ricordare” laddove la aspetta sicuramente la seguente “La Fine Dell’Uomo”, la cui tragicità mi lascia spiazzato ogni volta. Il percorso prosegue con la danza marziale di “Tragedia D’Amore E Di Morte” (le cui lyrics sono tratte da Contemplazione della Morte di Gabriele D’Annunzio) e la meno ispirata “Third Level” prima di buttarci a capofitto in un finale dove spiccano la dolorosa “Addio” e la nenia epica di “Dragon Of Death”.
“Initium” è senza dubbio disco di valore, un lavoro da andare a recuperare per completare con un altro tassello la nostra nutrita discografia di album italici. Non aspettatevi un capolavoro di proporzioni incredibili ma non pensate nemmeno di sottovalutare un progetto che sembra aver molto da dire.
