Secondo episodio discografico per i Viridanse 2.0 e tanta carne al fuoco, dopo l’ottimo album omonimo del 2015.
Ad accompagnare visivamente le suggestioni sonore di “Hansel & Gretel e la Strega Cannibale” sempre gli ottimi dipinti di Aeno China e De Nardis.
Sette brani che costituiscono altrettante storie, brani di una lunghezza mediamente elevata (dai 6 ai quasi 11 minuti) che scivolano via con una disinvoltura che lascia stupiti per la naturalezza che li contraddistingue. Porzione di tempo necessaria per narrare il nostro mondo, cannibale nei rapporti, nelle emozioni e per questo molto minaccioso.
Il suono, come è naturale che sia, riflette sensibilmente questa sensazione di inquietudine, variando modulazione, velocità ed intensità all’interno dello stesso brano, diventando graniticamente gotico, come mai era stato per i Nostri. Il flusso in continua trasformazione racchiuso in ogni traccia genera variazioni di velocità e tempo, con break che trasformano il brano, lo rivoluzionano, per poi confluirei nuovamente nel tutto dell’opera che rappresenta.
La vicinanza con i Type 0 Negative è molto più di una suggestione, come del resto non è celato l’amore per i Killing Joke: “Aria”, in alcuni frangenti, costituisce una chiara dichiarazione di stima nei confronti della band di Jaz (vedasi “Love Like Blood).
Come nel precedente episodio discografico sono nettamente percepibili le influenze del grunge dei ’90. “Arkham” è un brano che se fosse stato scritto dai Soundgarden post reunion, avrebbe fatto gridare al miracolo.
Fortunatamente per noi tutto questo è farina dei Viridanse, che con “Hansel & Gretel e la Strega Cannibale” dimostrano chiaramente di avere in pugno le coordinate della risurrezione del progetto musicale del quale sono fautori. Questo è un prezioso tassello nella loro discografia, forse meno immediato del predecessore, ma più incisivo sulla lunga distanza.
Assolutamente da avere.
